Glass Fittings – Why You Should Get Them Repaired

Glass fittings in your home are not something to ignore and should be repaired as soon as possible. The longer you wait to repair them, the more likely they are to shatter and pose a danger to your family.

Scratched glass can be repaired by applying a stabiliser and injecting epoxy. A Tasker can also fix cracked mirrors by injecting a resin that will repair the cracks.

Timber Window Repairs

If your timber windows are a bit leaky, rattling or draughty it’s time to get them repaired. We can repair the glass and frame using epoxy resin. Where the timber in the window frame has been damaged by rot we can use timber splicing techniques to restore the frame.

Start by removing any old putty. This will probably come away in big satisfying chunks, but if it’s really stuck you may need to chisel it off. Then use an electric palm sander to bed down the new putty. Be careful not to sand the glass though.

Once the putty has set give it a light sand with 240 grit sandpaper. This will lightly roughen the surface to help your next coat of paint stick. Repeat the process until you’re happy with the finish. Remember to clean the dust from sanding between each coat of paint. Draught proofing is a good way to keep excess moisture out of your home, especially in rooms that tend to build up condensation regularly, like bathrooms or kitchens.

Shower Screen Repairs

Shower screens provide a practical function as well as adding style to a bathroom renovation. Unfortunately, these fixtures can easily become scratched and stained with time and require regular maintenance. If you’re experiencing any problems with your shower screen, contact Jim’s Glass for a professional repair service.

To prevent soap scum, mildew and other grime buildup, clean your shower door with a mild solution of dishwashing liquid and water. Rinse and dry your door and frame to remove any residue. You can also apply a silicone-based lubricant to your shower door and frame to help it slide smoothly.

Keeping your shower doors and frame free from debris will also reduce the risk of water damage to your flooring. It’s important to dry your shower after each use by using a squeegee or basket of absorbent towels. This helps to avoid mineral and corrosive droplets from damaging your flooring and prevents condensation which can lead to mould and mildew.

Frame Repairs

Whether you need glass windows or doors repaired or replaced, you’ll be able to find trusted Taskers who can handle the job quickly and efficiently. A broken window or door left unattended is enticing to thieves and burglars while allowing pests inside your home. It’s also a safety risk for children and pets. Glass specialists can repair a variety of visible damages to your frames including cracks, chips, and scratches.

Wayne was a great help to us, turned up when he said he would and got the job done quickly with no fuss! Will definitely use him again. Thank you!

Mirror Repairs

Having fully functional side mirrors is a must for your safety on the road, and while cracked or shattered glass may seem like a sign of bad luck, it’s easily fixable with a bit of preparation. It’s important to assess the damage and gather the right tools and materials before you start working on your cracked mirror. Remember to wear work gloves when handling broken glass, and always adhere to safety precautions.

For a quick and simple DIY repair, cover the crack with clear nail polish. This solution is temporary, but it can prevent the crack from spreading further.

For a more permanent solution, apply an aluminium foil patch to the damaged area of your mirror. Make sure the reflective side is facing the backing, and use clear tape to secure the patch in place. Allow the adhesive to dry completely before moving or hanging the mirror. This typically takes 24 hours. If you have a more serious crack, opt for a more robust repair method such as epoxy resin adhesive.
